VSA collaborates with the Thong Sia Siang Teung Foundation, an established emergency rescue organization operating since 1956. The foundation's staff and working volunteers are fully trained rescue professionals who handle emergency situations alongside the affiliated Thong Sia Siang Teung Hospital.
As Hat Yai is a major travel hub for tourists from Malaysia and Singapore, effective international communication is vital. However, most local Thai rescue team members do not speak English or Chinese the primary languages used by foreign visitors in the city. Volunteers fill this crucial communication gap while supporting emergency operations.
Volunteers serve as assistants and support staff within the rescue team. Key duties include assisting with first aid, helping transport patients to the hospital, and supporting emergency response efforts during accidents or urgent situations.
While regular rescue teams operate on 12-hour shifts (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM and 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM), volunteers work a structured schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Accommodation: Volunteers stay with a local host family in either a private room or a shared room with another volunteer (depending on current placement numbers).
Meals: Host families provide authentic local Thai meals. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with meal preparation and share or exchange traditional food ingredients from their home countries.
