I worked at the same company in Korea for over 9 years.
But one day, I realised I wanted to live my life doing what I truly love.
So I quit my job and began my journey around the world.
By chance, I came across a Workcamp project and decided to apply.
I’ve always wanted to experience rural life in another country, share cultures, and connect with people in a genuine, human way — and Work camp felt like the perfect opportunity.
There was no reason not to do it.
However, unexpectedly, the other volunteer dropped out just before the project started, and I had to do it alone.
I was honestly nervous and afraid at first.
But that fear quickly faded.
I spent two weeks living in P. Thao’s house, and it turned out to be one of the happiest times in my life.
We worked on organic farming, met lovely neighbours and friends, and the whole family would get together for activities.
Strangely enough, everything reminded me of my childhood — almost suspiciously similar.
Even though I was clearly in a foreign country,
I felt like I was back home.
There was P. Somboon, who always told me to eat more like a caring father.
P. Thao, works so hard for her family and tries her best to learn English.
Oak, is a pure-hearted boy who loves Japanese anime and games.
And charming little U-Ing, the shy but adorable girl with her cheeky attitude.
Whether I’m in Korea or anywhere else in the world,
they will always have a place in my heart — because they are family to me.
One day, I hope to grow into a wiser, more mature person, become financially stable, and invite them all to Korea as a small way of saying thank you.
I also want to send my sincere thanks to the students I had the chance to teach — even though it was a short time, it meant a lot to me.
And to the two German volunteers I met, thank you both as well. Your presence and energy made this experience even more meaningful.
Lastly, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Q, who took such good care of me during these two weeks.
Thank you for always being there for me — your kindness and support meant more than words can say.
