I’m Daria, a volunteer from Russia, and I recently spent two incredible weeks in Thailand near Korat. There were two of us on the project: myself and Ondrej from the Czech Republic. We were involved in various activities at two local village schools. The school students were very cheerful and cute. All together we tried to communicate in English which was a fantastic experience.
What's more, we joined the project in the second half of December, so much of our time was dedicated to preparing for the Christmas celebrations at both schools. Celebrating Christmas in Thailand was so extraordinary for me. There was no snow, but there were all traditional Christmas items with a Christmas tree, Santa, decorations, songs and that wonderful feeling of magic.
During the project we also participated in the traditional Scouting Day which was a fascinating event filled with dances, performances, sports, forest exploration, and competitions.
I truly loved the chance to tell the students and our host family about Russia especially since I was the first Russian volunteer there. It was a cool opportunity to present my country, discuss its culture and traditions, watch cartoons together, share souvenirs with the students.
I am deeply grateful and would like to thank our host, Aom, for the warm welcome she extends to volunteers from all over the world.
