Everything felt like a total whirlwind before it even truly started. With my bags packed and a heart full of nervous excitement, I boarded the plane to a country I had never seen before, heading toward Rajaprajanugroh 24 boarding school in the quiet countryside.
Stepping onto the campus, I was instantly welcomed into a world that would completely change me. Creating lessons filled with games, music, and art, where the children were an absolute joy and so incredibly keen to learn, encouraging, and full of a beautiful, quiet energy. Even though many were desperately shy at the start, watching their confidence completely transform was pure magic. They proved to be some of the most respectful, kind, and supportive students I've ever met, and it quickly became clear that every single child carried a unique talent that was completely special to them.
Naturally, navigating a brand-new environment meant that communication could be difficult at times, but the local teachers made everything so much easier for us. They were always incredibly helpful, constantly stepping up to provide every bit of support they could to ensure we felt confident and comfortable. That incredible sense of community extended all the way to the school kitchen, too. I absolutely loved the school chef, who showed us the most heartwarming kindness, for preparing beautiful and delicious meals three times a day with wonderful children alongside.
Our time wasn't just spent in the classroom, though. We got to venture out and truly experience the magic of Northern Thailand together. We explored some of the amazing tourist attractions around Chiang Rai, taking in the vibrant local culture and sights. One of the absolute best days was heading out into nature to visit a stunning local waterfall, feeling the cool mist and taking a break from our busy schedules. I even got adrenaline pumping getting to experience to ride on a motorbike to ride around and cruising past the beautiful green landscapes was an unforgettable rush.
While our days were a blur of high-energy teaching, exploring, and lesson planning, our nights became a special sanctuary for the volunteers. Whether we were just chilling out, sharing stories from our different backgrounds, and playing cards. What I gained from my time here goes far deep as it taught me real adaptability, empathy, and the true beauty of giving. The school and its wonderful people will always hold a massive piece of my heart.
