About Me My name is Sarah, and I am a volunteer from Germany. I am taking part in a 12-month volunteer program and have now been in Thailand for 10 months. I work at Ban Prawnoom School in Mae Chaem, where I teach English to students from kindergarten and primary school (P1–P6)
One of the most important skills I have learned is flexibility. Every class is different, so I always try to adapt my lessons to the students' needs and English level. Sometimes a lesson does not go as planned, and I have to change my activities or explain things in a different way. There are also unexpected school events or schedule changes, so being flexible is very important.
Working with children has taught me to be patient. Many students need extra time to understand new vocabulary or instructions, and that is completely normal. Sometimes several students need help at the same time, so I have learned to stay calm and support each of them as best as I can.
Teaching has also helped me become more creative. I enjoy planning different kinds of lessons and making learning fun through games and interactive activities. I also use some Thai to communicate with the younger students or when they do not understand English yet. This helps create a comfortable learning environment and makes it easier to explain new topics.
One of my favorite parts of teaching is playing games with the students because they learn while having fun. I also enjoy listening to music with them, playing sports during activities, and talking to them. I always try to understand how the students are feeling and adapt my lessons to their mood and energy. I believe students learn best when they enjoy the lesson and feel comfortable in the classroom.
