SONGKHLA, THAILAND — On May 30, 2026, VSA Thailand, led by members of its Diyaporn Wisamitanan-Executive Committee (VSA EC), organized a special community side-activity bringing together international volunteers and local university students for a day of cross-cultural education and local agricultural immersion.
The initiative united international volunteers Ingeborg from the United States and Capucine from Belgium, alongside a dedicated team of four university students consisting of international students from Myanmar and Thai youths.
The day kicked off at the SOS Children’s Village Hatyai (หมู่บ้านเด็กโสสะ หาดใหญ่) in Songkhla. The volunteer cohort spent their afternoon creating an engaging learning environment for the children. Through interactive English language games, creative educational storytelling, and lively playtime activities, the volunteers brought an abundance of energy and smiles to the village.
Following the teaching session, the activities shifted from the classroom to the fields. The volunteer group was treated to a private tour of the village’s local mangosteen orchard.
For many of the foreign volunteers, this was a unique hands-on introduction to Southern Thailand’s rich agricultural heritage. The group learned about the cultivation of the "Queen of Fruits" and had the unique opportunity to pick and sample fresh mangosteens straight from the trees.
This side activity highlights VSA Thailand’s ongoing mission: combining impactful community volunteer service with grassroots cultural exchange. By involving international volunteers, regional Southeast Asian students, and Thai youths, the event showcased how community development and cultural appreciation go hand in hand.
VSA Thailand and its Executive Committee extend their heartfelt gratitude to SOS Children’s Village Hatyai for the warm welcome, and to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making the day a memorable success.
