By Mia Mathilda EHMEL in VSAMLTV1401: RPK50 School-Khonkaen, Thailand One Year Program
Hello! My name is Mia, I am nineteen years old and about a month ago I started the bigest journey of my life. I am currently participating in the VSA Volunteer Program in Thailand, which runs from August 2025 to August 2026. During this period, I will serve as an English teacher at a local school.
I work at Rajaprajanugroh School 50, a public educational institution located in the Ban Haet District of Khon Kaen, in Northeastern Thailand, near the Laos border. This school teaches students from primary to secondary levels and operates under royal patronage, for disadvantaged students.
I teach students in 7th and 9th grade (in Thai: mathayom 1 and 3). As an English teacher, I get to create fun, interactive lessons for my student. I love using teaching techniques like games, songs, videos and even a bit of dance to make learning exciting. This not only helps with picking up the language but also give students a chance to dive into different languages and cultures.
Plus, in the afternoon when lessons are over the other volunteers and I get the chance to be part of the school community by joining in on activities, like helping out at the coffee shop or cleaning the school.
