Episode 3

Have you ever felt like you want to do something different from your ordinary life? I have. So, that is the reason why I decided to join the Mae Chaem Volunteer Camp. After spending time for almost two weeks in Mae Chaem, I have learnt many interesting things from this volunteer camp. Besides, being a volunteer, it does change me a lot in a good way.

During two weeks, I did many activities such as planted the rice, did handcrafting like sewing pillows and key chains, learnt Thai cooking and trekked through the woods. More importantly, I got a chance to be an English teacher.

Other volunteers and I taught students in five different schools. Some class which I taught has only eight students. In my view, they need more teachers and facilities. Anyway, teaching and playing with children was so fun. It was a new experience that I have never done before.

Also, I learned many things from this camp. I learned how to deal with people and learned to adjust myself to people for instance, I worked together with other international volunteers, we faced problems but we found solutions, then the result came out well. Moreover, as I worked with many people, it makes me understand and accept different cultures and people. I gained a lot of self-confidence and I have learned to be a good leader and follower at the same time.

Above all, I have found precious friends here. Working with them was such a fun and special experience that I will not forget. Besides, we truly got the warm welcome from the locals that made me feel so blessed and thankful.

To summarize, I had really great time within two weeks as a volunteer in Mae Chaem. Not only, l learned many valuable things, but also I had a chance to give people skills and knowledge that I very much value. Because just like they said  You have two hands one to help yourself, the second to help others .  Lastly, all these memories from Mae Chaem will last forever with me.

Episode 4

 ค่ายนี้เป็นค่ายจิตอาสาครั้งแรกในชีวิต โดยไม่ได้คาดหวังว่าค่ายนี้จะดีสักเท่าไหร่ แต่กลับกลายเป็นทำให้หนูน้ำตาซึมเมื่อต้องจากลา

เมื่อสมัครตัดสินใจมาค่ายนี้คนเดียว เพื่อเก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์และหาเพื่อนใหม่ (โดยเฉพาะเพื่อนต่างชาติ) ก่อนสมัครแอบกลัวนิดๆ ว่า คงไม่มีใครมาคนเดียวแบบนี้ จะหาเพื่อนได้ไหม เพราะตัวเราเองไม่ใช่คนที่กล้าเข้าไปคุยกับคนอื่น

วันแรกมาถึงที่นัดหมายคนเป็นสุดท้าย จำได้ว่าตอนนั้นตื่นเต้นมาก มีคนต่างชาติมากกว่าที่คิด พอได้พูดคุยทำให้รู้ว่า มีหลายๆ คนที่มาคนเดียวแบบเรา ทำให้มีความมั่นใจในการพูดคุยมากขึ้น

 ฉันพักห้องเดียวกับฟลอและพี่ปิ๊ง ซึ่งเราสามคนก็เข้ากันได้เร็วมากกว่าที่คิด ทำให้สนิทกับฟลอมาก เราชอบพูดหยอกล้อกัน ไปไหนด้วยกัน โดยเฉพาะอินเตอร์เน็ตคาเฟ่ ตอนที่ฉันมีปัญหา ฟลอจะเข้ามาช่วยคนแรกเสมอ

กิจกรรมสอนน้อง ๆ ที่โรงเรียนเป็นสิ่งที่แปลกใหม่สำหรับฉัน โดยเฉพาะวันที่ต้องสอน ซึ่งมีฉันเป็นคนไทยคนเดียวพร้อมกับมาริน่าและจูเลีย ตอนแรกก็พยายามไม่พูดไทยในการสอน แต่น้อง ๆ ไม่ค่อยเข้าใจ จึงต้องใช้ภาษาไทยสลับกับอังกฤษกันไป มาริน่าเป็นคนคิดการสอนและกิจกรรมส่วนใหญ่สำหรับเด็ก ๆ โดยเน้นให้เด็กพูดและวาดรูป เล่นเกมแทนการจดลงในหนังสือ เด็กทุกคนมีความสุขกับกิจกรรม ทำให้พวกเราสามคนปลื้มตาม ๆ กันไป

อุปสรรคส่วนใหญ่ในค่ายนี้คือ การที่บางคนพูดแต่ภาษาบ้านเกิดของตนกับเพื่อนชาติเดียวกัน ทำให้คนอื่นไม่เข้าใจและรู้สึกแปลกแยก ตอนที่ฉันต้องสอนร่วมกับชาวต่างชาติ เวลาคิดกิจกรรม ในบางครั้งเขาจะปรึกษากันแค่สองคนก่อนแล้วค่อยอธิบายให้หนูฟัง ทำให้ฉันรู้สึกแย่ ฟลอเป็นคนต่างชาติคนเดียวที่พยายามไม่พูดภาษาบ้านเกิดของตัวเอง และพยายามอยู่กับเพื่อนต่างชาติเพื่อพูดอังกฤษตลอดเวลา เวลาจะไปไหนกับกลุ่มเพื่อนฝรั่งเศสเขาจะบอกหนูว่า’ Don’t worried, I’ll not speak too much France.’

ค่ายนี้ได้ให้ข้อคิดหลายอย่างไม่ว่าจะการอยู่ร่วมกับคนอื่น การทำงานร่วมกัน การรับมือกับสถานการณ์ต่าง ๆ และสำคัญที่สุดคือมิตรภาพ ต้องขอบคุณค่ายนี้ที่ทำให้ฉันมีแนวคิดเปลี่ยนไปจากเดิม ทัศนคติกว้างขึ้น มีความกล้าแสดงออกมากขึ้น กล้าพูดในสิ่งที่คิด และรู้วิธีการปรับเข้าหาคนอื่น สิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นสิ่งที่หาไม่ได้จากห้องเรียน ถ้ามีโอกาสฉันจะกลับมาอีกครั้งแน่นอน
