The Memory of TNW/GA/Wanlapa Khiao

As a student, going to classes for lecture is the main responsibility. However, these days, you cannot live in highly competitive society without being good at social and leadership skills. For me, I am likely to be eager to do extra-curricular activities as much as I have time more and more.

On Saturday 18th of January 2014, I got an opportunity to volunteer as a helper for the Asian Summit of Voluntary Service 2014 at the Institute for Southern Thai Study, Yo Island, Songkhla. There were 280 participants from 18 countries joining the conference including 36 NVDA organization members from nearby countries in Asia such as Myanmar, Japan, Nepal, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Korea and Thailand.

I was responsible for the booth of Myanmar. In other words, I was an interpreter between Thai participants and my friend from Myanmar ヨ Thazin Aung. It was such as great experience to know Thazin and work with her. She is friendly and active woman. She is only a small woman, but she was brave to come to Thailand by herself because her hearth asked her to do so. At least, I gained more motivation to pursue my attitude of doing voluntary work. Moreover, I got a new friend ヨ new friendship.

By participating from the beginning through the end of the meeting, I realized how those people love to be a giver. I could see that people and maybe also governments and private sectors in nearby countries pay attention on voluntary work. Moreover, I saw participants are good at social skills. In other words, only a short period of time, they could get along well with to each other. Since I started doing extracurricular activities and also voluntary work, I seem to have more self-confidence and interpersonal skills.
