Fried Sweet Purple Yam Dough

Story by Minn Trang

“Fried Sweet Purple Yam Dough”

In Vietnam, we call it “Banh Khoai Mo Chien”. It is a popular type of snack for every age, especially children and we can buy it in every vendors’ food stalls on the street in Ho Chi Minh City.

Fried Sweet Purple Yam Dough appeared in everyone’s childhood, it’s cheap, pupils can buy it easily in front of their primary or secondary school. I love the time I enjoyed eating this snack with friends in the evening, after the school dismissal time.

It basically just mashed sweet yams combined with sugar, condensed milk, milk, flour, tapioca starch, we knead the dough into balls or any shape and fry it. Simple but delicious. You can easily make it from home and be creative with your own recipe. Enjoy!
