Participants will work in Taisi Hicall eco-tourism centre, which is found by local government and maintain by VYA, an international youth organization. The main projects and activities of centre are educated people about the clams and oyster eco Aquaculture industry and how to work and live together with nature beauty. So the main task of participants is helping the centre to maintain the eco Lagoon for clam eco system education. They will clean the beautiful beach of eco Lagoon such as clean the stone and seaweed.

Besides, since 2007 VYA organized the international workcamp and painting for community; Taisi now is also famous by its painting art, people call it Taisi international art village, it was selected as one of the top 20 art villages in Taiwan, too. Participants can enjoy the artistic atmosphere of Taisi international art village.

Participants with artistic skills, such as singing, juggling, playing musical instrument are encouraged to apply for this camp as they will have the chance to help create a nice and friendly atmosphere.

By the way, we will also join some events with local people. Participants will also have opportunities to experience traditional local market, night market, and eco-tourism in free schedule, chat with local people and enjoy the passions from them.

; seaweed is the main part of the marine plants and the main producer of food and air. Seaweed provides the great place for marine species to rest, to find food or mating. Though seaweed has so many benefits but it can cause the death of clams if seaweed grows too much. Due to clams lives under the sand; too much seaweed will cause the lack of air for clams under the sand. So our work is to remove seaweed that grows too excessive. And to clean the beach and the environment of Taisi ecological park is also the part of our job.

Experience the art village: This is the 9th year that VYA organizes series of international workcamp in Taisi for painting and education etc. And now Taisi is famous as an art village of painting. People call it Taisi international art village. There were over 300 volunteers from over 20 different countries all over the world came to Taisi. By painting, we created many inspiring stories. รับอาสาสมัครร่วมโครงการ"สร้างลมหายใจให้ต้นไม้" ประเทศกรีซ

posted Mar 20, 2015, 10:35 AM by Vsa Admin   [ updated Mar 26, 2015, 12:56 AM ]

Description

LOCAL PARTNER: Municipality of Ierapetra – Department of Environment.

WORK:  The Forest Park of Apigania in Ierapetra (5000 acres) consists of the Koutsoura woods (100 acres), with infrastructure for miscellaneous educational and leisure activities and an afforested land of 300 acres, where the creation of a Botanical Garden of Apigania is planned, with species of Cretan and Mediterranean flora.

In the broader region of 5000 acres nature trails can be designed (which include The Butterflies’ Canyon that ends up to a big cascade), climbing fields as well as religious tourism trails (churches, monasteries etc). The region was burnt down 20 years ago but then thousands of school children and citizens of the Ierapetra Municipality planted more than 10.000 trees of local Cretan flora. Today these trees (pine trees, cypresses, locust trees, cedars and others) face a major problem. Their top has dried up and they are not able to grow because they were never pruned. Thus, their branches are very long and the tree’s juice cannot reach their top. In collaboration with foresters and agriculturists of the Municipality of Ierapetra it is agreed to proceed to prune works so that the trees could eventually manage to “breathe”.

Volunteers will be involved in this forestry work. Local environmental groups will join, as the cooperation of international and local volunteers is one of the main aims of the workcamp.

Volunteers will work 6 hours per day, 6 days per week. C.i.A. is not responsible for any changes in the work.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will be hosted in group-tents. Accommodation will be basic but showers, toilet and cooking facilities will be provided in a nearby public building. Volunteers will be given all necessary equipment and materials from the local host and they will prepare their meals in shifts.

LOCATION AND LEISURE: Ierapetra is a town in the south east of Crete Island. The forest park of Apigania where the camp will take place is 3 km away from Ierapetra. Visits and excursions to the most important sites of the area, including an excursion to the island of Chrysi, one of the most important environmental protected areas of Greece.  Volunteers will also have the opportunity to visit and participate in some of the cultural events organised in different parts of the area. Camp-leaders will organise free time activities in co-operation with the volunteers and the local partner. C.i.A does not cover free time activities expenses

Extra fee: 20€. As the “crisis” in Greece has affected heavily the public health system, we are “forced” to charge an extra fee, in order to provide quality health insurance. This fee should be paid upon arrival at the workcamps.

Languages:  English

Airport: Heraklion or Sitia airports. Heraklion Port

Station: Ierapetra

Notes: The work will be physically demanding mainly because of the weather conditions (sun, high temperatures and wind).

Summary of the workcamp: An Environmental workcamp will take place in the Greek Island of Crete, in collaboration with the Municipality of Ierapetra and a group of local volunteers. Hundreds of trees in the Forest Park of Apigania are dying and there is an immediate need of help in order to save them. The volunteers will do the necessary pruning so the trees are able to “breath”.

Languages: English

Airport: Incheon International Airport (ICN)

Train station: None. The volunteers will have to take an express bus from Seoul to Muan.

Max vols per country: 2

Max national vols: 5

Special requirements: KNCU-2 requires volunteers who are interested in the environment and have experience working with children as we have a camp for local children.

Work: Muan-gun is a region in the Southwest of the Korean peninsula. Renowned for its beautiful landscape and rich biodiversity, its coastal areas have been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List and as a Biosphere Reserve. As the area is currently on the Tentative List, bringing together international volunteers from around the world to preserve the area and conduct campaigns to raise awareness of it would provide a worthwhile experience not only for the volunteers but also for the local residents.

The volunteers will experience the ecological system and culture of local communities. The volunteers are expected to work in the coastal areas to preserve the natural beauty of the Tidal Flat. Manual labour such as helping agricultural farming, painting walls, and helping construction work is expected. Lastly, there will be time to connect with the local middle school and high school students, where volunteers will conduct cultural classes.

Accommodation and food: Volunteers will be living in a nearby residential house. It is equipped with two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. However, please be aware that the accommodations will meet the very minimum standards (no air-conditioner, for example) and you should be able to adapt to the hot weather as the temperature rises significantly during the summer season in the coastal area. The volunteers will need to take turns in cooking, showcasing their own culture’s food. On the arrival day for the workcamp, volunteers will gather at UNESCO House of KNCU located in Seoul and will travel together to the workcamp site all together. They will make a schedule as to who will cook, clean, etc.

BACKGROUND: Lo Spirito del Pianeta is an annual international festival of indigenous and tribal cultures organised by the Italian NGO “Sesto Sole Chicuace In Tonatiuh” since 2010. The festival gathers tribal groups from all over the world, let them introduce their cultures at first hand and make them better known and understood through different performances (dances, songs, rituals, conferences, workshops). Every night different indigenous and tribal groups perform their traditional arts. The entrance to the festival is free and every year it attracts more then 100.000 visitors. Various activities for children and adults are organized in the festival area (games, contests, workshops etc.). The festival also includes a craft fair with about 130 stands of traditional handicrafts. There are Italian, Spanish, Argentinian and Ethiopian restaurants, a vegetarian and a vegan restaurants, a Kebab restaurant. The goals of the festival are to promote and to facilitate the meeting, mutual understanding and brotherhood of people, to overcome some stereotypes about traditional cultures, to discover and enhance tribal cultures and to reveal the history of little-known ethnic groups, to support ethnic groups and tribes in protection and preservation of their environment, local economy and traditions. The organisers and numerous national volunteers of the festival believe that even if we may look different and come from different parts of the world, we are all humans of one kind and we should help each other. The profit made during “Lo Spirito del Pianeta” by selling food, drinks and crafts goes to support some projects of development aid that improve people’s lives while preserving their traditions. Please make sure you share these values before applying to this project! http://www.lospiritodelpianeta.it/en/

WORK: International volunteers will make up a bigger team of volunteers helping set up, run and take down the festival. Before the beginning of the festival the group of the international volunteers will help to build the facilities of the festival (tents, yurts and other structures). At the end of the festival the volunteers will take down the festival. The international volunteers will work for around 6/7 hours per day. The work will be done in pairs or small groups in different shifts (to be arranged together with the campleader) in the morning, afternoon and mostly late in the evening. During the free time the volunteers will have the opportunity to join concerts, performances, cultural events, etc. in the festival area. Please note that flexibility and adaptability are required, and there might be some physically demanding work from time to time (under the sun or rain sometimes as the weather could be unpredictable in June). Be ready to work in a big team of national volunteers and hopefully become wonderful members of this great family!
