Peace Village 2015 Camp

Korean, Japanese and Thai volunteer joined Peace Village camp, Klonghoikhong Songkhla between 12—24 January 2015. Farming, teaching, cleaning. Enjoy their experience.

Hello to VSA! 

My name is Yoonjin and I'm from Korea. In here, everyone calls me Yoon. 

For me, it is the second time in Thailand. My first visit was in December of 2013, at that time I fell in love with Thailand. I've always wanted to be back to here, because I was sick and tired of my daily life. I have wanted more adventurous. Therefore, I decided to travel Thailand for 2 months and spend 2 weeks for the work camp. 

As a volunteer, my activities were like this; 1. Working in the organic farm 2. Teaching English to Thai kids 3. Renovating the learning home 4. Living with local people.

My favorite work was teaching English. On Wednesday, we went to a kindergarten and a primary school in the town. If you want to teach English in Thailand, there is one important thing you should know; Thai kids are very very shy. Especially in the countryside, most of the children are not used to foreigners and English. In my first day in school it was really hard to get to be friendly with kids. I kept asking "Hi, my name is Yoon. What is your name?" or "How are you?" but nobody answered. I even tried in Thai but it didn't work! However, as time goes by, we got to be friends and they liked us too. Once we became intimate with kids, everything was much easier in the next class. Actually, before this project, I didn't like children that much and I'm not good the children. But all of them were so adorable and I really enjoyed spending time with them. One of the kids in the kindergarten brought an English book to me to read it! I was so surprised because she was so shy in previous class. It was a really impressive experience. 

Furthermore, the great thing was that I had the chance to learn more about Thai culture. In my last trip, I have stayed only in Bangkok. It was nice but sometimes I thought everything was so touristic and I couldn't make any local friends. However now I have Thai friends! I have learnt many things from them about Thai culture, people, and cuisine! 

I had a really great time in here, Songkhla. These 2 weeks will be unforgettable memories for my entire life. Thanks to everyone, thanks to everything.

Hello, my name is MARIKO, I am from JAPAN.

It is fifth time to join the international workcamp since I was a university student. The reason why I like to do is that I really like to meet new friends all around the world from different countries and culture. Each time they give me a new realization about Japan and myself, help to broaden my point of view about everything.

The most impressive work of this period for me was teaching children at primary school. They listened our class with shining eyes, a lot of curiosity, that I have been lack of these days. We shared enjoyable moments with Origami-Crafts that I had brought from Japan. They healed me, really.

I am sure these activities will help them connect to the wider world and have a broad outlook, so I hope more people know about VSA and to keep doing this activity for future children.

Last but not least, I appreciate for all your kindness- your smile is wonderful.

I will never forget this experience.

การได้มาอยู่ค่ายในคลองหอยโข่ง จังหวัดสงขลาในครั้งนี้ทำให้ฉันได้รู้จักตัวเองมากขึ้น กิจกรรมที่หลากหลายทำให้ฉันได้พบเจอประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆที่หาไม่ได้จากกรุงเทพฯ กิจกรรมที่ฉันประทับใจที่สุดคือการปลูกผักออร์แกนิค ลงแปลงผสมดิน พรวนดิน หว่านเมล็ด และสุดท้ายได้รับประทานผักที่ตัวเองปลูกอีกด้วย แค่ถือมีดหนึ่งเล่มและเดินไปในแปลงหลังบ้านก็อิ่มท้องได้อย่างสบาย ๆ โดยไม่ต้องเสียสตางค์เลย

              ทุกวันพุธฉันและเพื่อน ๆ อาสาสมัครจะไปสอนภาษาอังกฤษที่ศูนย์ฯ ด็กเล็ก และโรงเรียนต่าง ๆ ในชุมชน ก่อนฉันจะมาที่นี่ ฉันไม่เคยคลุกคลีกับเด็กมาก่อน เด็กกับฉันเป็นความสัมพันธ์ที่ไกลกันมาก แต่หลังจากที่ได้สัมผัสกับเด็ก ความคิดของฉันที่มีต่อเด็กก็เปลี่ยนไป ฉันมองเห็นถึงความน่ารักและไร้เดียงสาของเด็กมากขึ้น การมองโลกที่ไม่ซับซ้อนของเด็กทำให้ฉันเข้าใจแล้วว่าเหตุใดความสุขของเด็กถึงสามารถถูกสร้างได้ง่ายกว่าผู้ใหญ่มากมายนัก…

การใช้ชีวิตในค่ายนี้ ฉันต้องเผชิญกับเรื่องท้าทายมากมาย หลายสิ่งหลายอย่างเกิดขึ้นโดยที่ไม่ได้คาดคิดไว้ เหตุการณ์บางเหตุการณ์นำมาซึ่งความประทับใจ ในขณะที่บางเหตุการณ์กลับรู้สึกตรงกันข้าม อย่างไรก็ตาม สุดท้ายฉันเลือกที่จะปรับทัศนคติ และเปิดใจยอมรับเรื่องราวต่าง ๆ ที่เข้ามามากขึ้น ฉันมองว่าทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างที่เข้ามาไม่ว่าจะดีหรือร้าย ล้วนแล้วแต่เป็นสิ่งที่มาเติมเต็มชีวิต และทำให้ชีวิตแข็งแกร่งมากยิ่งขึ้น

                สิ่งสุดท้ายที่ฉันได้จากค่ายนี้คือ ฉันเข้าใจถึงความแตกต่างของการใช้ชีวิตแบบเมืองกับชนบทอย่างชัดเจน  คนในเมืองมีชีวิตที่รีบเร่ง มีหน้าที่การงานและภาระต่าง ๆ มากมายที่ต้องจัดการ ชีวิตในแต่ละวัน“ถูกใช้”หมดไปอย่างรวดเร็ว แตกต่างจากคนที่นี่ ชีวิตในแต่ละวันของพวกเขาหมดไปอย่างช้า ๆ  แต่ดูราวกับว่า เขามีความสุขกับมัน...กับชีวิตที่เขาได้“ใช้”
