Teaching at Primary School

Volunteer Accommodation; Learning HOME 



Learning Home is doing

·         A camp accommodation and kitchen which available for Mid-Long Term volunteers and Short term volunteers

·         VSA Office

·         ICL class for local students

·         Organic Farm where we harvest volunteers food.


So in InterCutural and Language (ICL) project, volunteer will work as the teacher in a class for local students at Learning HOME  , ICL camp the camp for local students at their place, and go to the local school nearby Learning Home area. Also join others activities of ICL idea such as farming and renovation.



Volunteers are expecting to work as English teacher. You can preparing the easy English lesson and useful conversation. Open and shared a new experience with the students. Use your own experience for teaching and enjoying with games.

This project did not expect excellent teaching method or much experience, just you are willing and love to be with kids everything will come naturally. The aims of this project is to give local student chance to communicate with international volunteer. They have some experience with previuos volunteers so your responsibilities is to continue the project, give the students chance to meet international volunteer and not forget what they have learned in English class and previous volunteer. Using is the best way to practice and learning language!

In addition you have chance to learn them your own language as InterCultural and Language Learning idea. This center the local people can come to share and learn together as the “School and Market”.

“School” mean where everyone can learn anything they want and “Market” mean the place where everyone can exchange, bring what you have not only money to exchange. Such as you can bring your Thai cooking method to exchange with Japanese cooking method, you can bring your own language to exchange with Thai language, your own traditional dance with Thai dance, etc.

·         VSA Education class for local students on every Saturday. The kids who live nearby Learning HOME area will come to learn English. There are around 10 students in morning class 10:00 – 12:00 and there are around 30 students in the afternoon 14:00 – 16:00. For the time table, first 30 minutes is the assembly time to energize the student and get ready to study, we use game songs in this session. After this the student will be divided in 3 groups and separate to study with international volunteers, you will have 30 minutes per each class after that student will exchange to other group until the meet all 3 groups.

·         ICL camp, the special camp for local schools if we get the request from school we can organize ICL special camp at their place. Volunteer will plan together with VSA staff of this session.

·         Go to the local school nearby Learning HOME area, volunteer will plan with VSA staff before go to school near by. We have teaching method book and you also can exchange with the teacher in the school.

Accommodation Volunteers stay in Learning Home.

Ø  Share two big room with another volunteers, separate male and female.

Ø  Mattress, fans, pillows and mosquitoes net is provided.

Ø  Toilet, shower, electricity and refrigerator is provided.

Ø  Washing clothes by hands.

Ø  No food and drinks accept water in accommodation area for your care because some animals such as mouse, snake, lizard etc. will come to share your food.

Ø  No smoking and no alcohols.

Ø  No karaoke or any noise after 21:00.

Ø  Bicycles is provided.

Ø  Internet connection is provided but offline on 20:00.

Ø  Please keep clean and tidy and in Learning Home and working area. Recycling bins will be available in the house.




Ø  Volunteers take turn to cook as cooking team

Ø  Cooking team go to local fresh market to shop fresh food,

Ø  There are Organic farm at Learning home that can be volunteers food.

Ø  You are expected to bring your ingredients from your hometown for cultural exchange.

Ø  1-3 Months 10,000 Bath per month minus 2,000 Bath per month after 4th months

Ø  4th months 8,000 Bath, 5th months 6,000 Bath, 6th months 4,000 Bath, 7th months 2,000 Bath after 8th months is free.

Ø  Participation fee use for food and accommodation during volunteer project period except volunteer own expenses such as souvenirs, alcohols, personal food, free time travel expenses also expense before the project start and after project ending.

Ø  It may be very difficult to change or withdraw money during the Project. So, please prepare adequate funds of Thai Bath in Cash beforehand!!



Please Note

Ø  Culture respect is need in Learning Home and your project site as we stay with many international volunteers

Ø  You should prepare travel insurance and visa by yourself before departure, there is Local Public Health in case of minor injury that you may get free of medical expense.

Ø  If your behavior during the project is not cooperative (e.g. not working properly, not respecting others, breaking the rules, the local manners and culture, etc.), you will be requested to improve. If there is still no improvement, we may request you to leave as the final choice.


What to bring (Base on imagine you are the teacher)

Ø  Sleeping bag ( thin one as it is very warm)

Ø  Teaching clothes, every shirts need to cover the shoulders, trousers for man and skirt for woman, skirt should cover your knees. Important! No vest, shorts when teaching.

Ø  Jacket

Ø  No smoking and alcohols drink in front of students and local people.

Ø  Brogue shoe or canvas shoes, no slippers when teaching.

Ø  Medicine as you think necessary

Ø  Mosquito repellant

Ø  Your traditional music and costumes (CDs, ideas for games/ activities).

Ø  Materials or sources (brochures, maps, souvenirs, pictures, flags, or handicrafts to introduce

about your country and culture).

Ø  Toilet paper (you can by it at the shop in Thailand) / Flash light

Ø  Sunglasses and sun-block cream

Ø  Any interesting materials such as CDs, ideas for games/activities for students

Ø  Energy, enthusiasm and an open mind

Ø  Motivation, good humor, and communication skills

Thailand Special Tip

Ø  Thai people is kind and always smile for greeting, Thai life is easy, we are easy to live especially with foreigners. So hitch hike is work in Thailand but sometime be careful if you are alone girl.

Ø  SAWASDEE Ka is Hello for Woman, SAWASDEE Krub is Hello for Man just say this word when greeting you will get the smile back from Thai.

Ø  Water from tab could not drink but just use for washing.

Ø  Sometime you will see Thai toilet, please use bath to get water for suppression.
