VSA1404 Setting up VSA Clay House and ceramics International Learning Center (New) CONS 03.03 - 15.03 Prajuabkirikhan 10

"Newsletter VSA 1404

First week, we arrived as 3 French volunteers for two weeks to build a clay house. The meeting point was at 2 pm at Prachuap train station, we arrived 2 hours before and then waited for 4 hours. At the beginning we were a little bit worried about who we were going to meet and our English wasn’t good enough. But fortunately (or unfortunately) we were only between French people during these 2 weeks as two others French volunteers came along.

When we arrived at the camp, Bird, the camp manager, showed us the clay house which has been made by others volunteers 2 months ago and told us what job we will have to do during those 2 weeks, which was to finish the clay house.

So during the first week we started to put the clay bricks on the wall and do some more because there wasn’t enough.

We also went to a school to paint a wall. We had lunch there with the childrens. It was funny because the childrens was very excited to see European people.

In the evening we went at the local market to buy some food and we saw that the local people live by the fish work.

After that it was the weekend, we woke up earlier that usual but it was worse it because we saw the sun rising at the monkey temple and then spent the day at the beach. We also went to 2 differents waterfalls, that was great.

The second week we covered the walls with a mix of clay, chlore, cement and water. We also finished the roof with palmer leaves and made a wooden door, then we cleaned up everything.

The clay house is now done and ready to welcome volunteer!

Set up VSA Clay House and ceramics  International Learning Center

Clay house Learning Centre is the new learning center of VSA, where we study on social work, nature, and being environmental friendly.

The aims of the new learning center is:

·         Living as natural and environmentally friendly as possible.

·         Learning center is for everyone who wants to learn how to build and live within natural conditions.

·         Sharing different living experiences is the VSA’s main aim InterCutural and Language learning (ICL)

To Build a habitat like as the Clay house is the lowest cost for living expense which is available for everyone. Also the method is not too complicated and doest not cost too much money or knowledge.A Clay House also can be built for other purposes such as agriculture (to be mushroom room, storage tool, etc.), service place, etc. As its condition is cooler than a brick house, in Thailand a clay house is the main alternative place to have cooler conditions, avoiding air-condition.

This is the plan for the new learning center. The whole place is originally landscaped. There is one hut and a toilet. Thus, volunteers will help to build a new clay house to be used as the new learning center.
